I was teaching my mom, Betty Broughton, how to google for information on her computer. I used Sac City as an example and was in awe at the website I found here. Thanks for teaching me about my hometown!! Great Job!!
My mother's family is from Sac City. Her maiden name was Dona Coleman. She's a cousin of Bill Musselman. I visited Sac City in the early 1980's and absolutely fell in love with the place. I have a (pencil'd in) plan to relocate to Sac City in a few years. It must be in the blood. Wish me luck!
I found the following while surfing the web: JourneyAmerica.com : ABOUT JOURNEYAMERICA .. He is presently finishing The BioNarrative of Paul McCorkle, the biography of 90-year-old, Iowa-native Paul McCorkle, who built a great life from humble ...
Is this the Paul McCorkle who was a builder in Sac City? If so, he gave me my first full time job. We were building a new grain elevator at Jolley, probably in 1940.
Please, anyone, give me information if this is the same McCorkle, and if he is still living, so I can send him a letter.
My dad's name was William Victor Cory Jr. He was born in Sac City and graduated from high school in 1939. My grandparents William Victor and Sylva Cory lived in Sac. I undestand the Cory family was some of the first settlers.
I live in one of the houses that is in the slideshow, It is the # 11th house and says F.W.Loring and I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who could tell me more about the house,or if anyone knows if there are any other pics of the house inside as well as the outside...Thanx
Well I took a look at these photos and they were pretty intresting to look at what places look like way back when. I just wished that you would have had more than one side of the house pictured. But other than that, this place is pretty nifty!
Hello everyone, I know alot of people in Sac City and was surfing and found the site. I just wanted to let everyone know that I am very happy living in Las Vegas, although I do not miss living in Sac I wanted to let everyone that my family and I are doing great. I have relatives that still live there, such as my grandmother and little brother. My husband is a Category 2 peace officer for the State of Nevada and I am studying for my Real Estate and Broker License. I am now the proud mother of 2 boys. John age 9 and Jarrett age 1 1/2. I think the website is great and I wish everyone good well in GOD's COUNTRY!! Please feel free to email me I would love to hear from old time friends
Hello; My name is Charles Crowe. I lived in Sac City back in 1966.I lived there for only about a year with my mother and sister. What I would is if someone could send me some photoes of Sac City, down town would be great. would realy like to go back there someday. Any photoes would be great.
What a great web site. It's been 16 years since we moved away, but Sac City is still "home". Our eldest son put a link to this site on our family web site. The Presleys almost all consider Sac City home - and will enjoy this site immensely. Such an improvement from the last time I checked it out!! Lots of familiar names posting messages. I see that Kelley Hoskins posted one - and I haven't heard anything about him in years. Keep up the good work - and Thank You to all who worked on this site. Linda (Love) Henson
I love Sac City as it has many happy memories for me. I live in California but I remeber visiting Sac City as a child. Both sides of my family has it's roots in Sac City. My Great Ganfather Charles E. Baichtal was the blacksmith, my Grandfather Joseph P. Jones was the founder of Citizen's Savings Bank, my grandfather Fred W. Ellis was a type setter for The Sac Sun. Both of my parents Vernon Jones and Barbara Ellis graduated from Sac High School, my father in 1930 and my mother in 1936.
This website is great and it's been a while since I've got back to visit and this just brings me so many wonderful memories of small town Iowa and all my friends and relatives that did so much to shape who I am today. I hope to get back soon. My husband just loves coming back to visit because it is so down to earth there. Hope everyone is doing well.
My grandparents live in sac city. they are Keith Diersen, owner of Keith Interiors and Becky Diersen. I always enjoy coming back to sac city and seeing old friends. i know many people and there are many people who know me and i dont know! I went to school there for half a year of kindergarten and really enjoyed it!
Right now I am serving in the Army. A lot of people in town know that I am serving in Kuwait right now. I just wanted to let everybody know that I am alright and that everything over here is just fine.

I enjoyed looking at the web site and reading the various posts. It made my heart long for a fourteen hour drive up north. Sac City gave me a great foundation and I'll always remember "where I came from."
Hi Sac Citians, it's Eric Stone. Left Sac City in the late 80s when I was 12 (rather abruptly, thanks to my dad's job I might add). I'm kind of missing the place these days, and I found this FANTASTIC website, bringing back some ofthe old memories. Excellent job with the site! Anyone remember me? E-mail me.
Hello,
perhaps you have the oppotunity to help me finding out the E-Mail address of my relatives near Sac City. The name is Edward Scharn from Lytton.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards.
Dierk Schöning
I was just searching on the web and came upon this site, it is nice. I must admit I really miss Sac City and I always feel a certian longing to live there again. If only it wasn't so hard to find a job.
I moved to Sac City in 1959 from Rockford Ill. Being thirteen at the time I didn't want to move. I soon became a part of Sac City as my parents and I became involved in the community. I graduated in 1964 and joined the Army soon after. I often think back on the way life unfolded, and though I have no regrets, I consider the years in Sac as the most enjoyable of my life. Thanks for the memories.
I see that since I last visited you have posted the upcoming class reunions. Thank you. However, I don't see any information on a 1959 Class reunion. A little early maybe? And we have only 2 of the 1959 classmate listed on the class roles? I would love to see more!
Regards,
Elaine

I AM LO0KING FOR INFORMATION CONCERNING MY GG GRANDPARENTS BENNAJAH B.(DIED1888)& ADELIA DODGE(DIED 1882)COOPER. THEY ARE LISTED IN THE 1880 SAC CO CENSUS AND ARE BURIED AT EARLY, IA.
I stumbled across this sight today, and it brought back some good memories. I was born and raised in Sac City. I graduated from Sac City High School in 1969. My folks and Grandparents farmed norht of town. My siblings and I still own the farm. I live in the Austin/San Antonio Texas area today, but have great memories of my childhood days in Iowa.
Keep up the good work on this sight. I plan to revisit often.
I visited this site because my grandmother was born in Sac City. I found the history very interesting. I think the town was only about forty years old when she was born. They moved to Missouri afterward. I think my great-grandparents had a store they ran there. The family name was Bennett. I don't remember his first name. Anyway, this is a great site for historical information. Thank you for being here.
WHAT A SURPRISE TO SEE MY HOMETOWN SHOWING OFF SUCH A PROFESSIONAL WEBSITE.I GREW UP ON FARM 3 MILES SO.OF SAC AND GRADUATED CLASS OF '59. WHILE I LOVE CALIFORNIA(SINCE 1962)I SURE DO LONG FOR THE QUIET, PEACEFUL,SERENITY OF SAC CITY. ALL MY TRIPS TO IOWA VISITING MY SIBLINGS INCLUDES A TRIP TO MY HOMETOWN.CLASS REUNION OF 1959 WILL BRING ME BACK AGAIN!!!
It has really been fun reading everyone's messages on this website. Am looking forward to the Class of 58 reunion in August. Hope we have a good turn-out. Would be fun to see some of the old teachers, if they're still around!
The following is from the Foreword of my autobiography, which is being written:
My children, their children, and children yet to be born, were reared in an era and environment very different from that which I have experienced. For that reason, I have decided to write the story of my life so my descendants may have the vicarious experiences of farm life during the Great Depression in the 20th Century, what it was like to attend a small one-room country school, the adjustments required to change from rural living to being alone in a big city, the leaving of my parents again to go to war, and the trepidations of my wife and myself in the raising of our own children.
I would like to include a photo of my one-room country school, Cedar No. 3. I attended the original school in 1927 and 1928. About that time a more modern building was built, I believe it was 1929, one with a basement and chemical toilets.
Can anyone furnish me with a photo of either school building? Please state any cost involved, which I will be glad to reimburse.

Going back in time, Sac City a place to remember. Driving around on the southside of town people stop and see saying hi and getting together having pizza uptown at the pizza place having a great time. I couldnt forget the county fair walking around kicking the dirt or even stepping in the mud after a down pour then it got hot and uncomfortable. Of course, the most beautiful time of the year, Christmas. People of all ages getting those last minute gifts for those special people and family to get for. I'll never forget those days in Sac City. The place with memories.

My parents and grandparents lived in Sac City at the turn of the century. My mother graduated from Sac City High School in 1917. Her parents once ran the hotel in town. Their name was Barrett. My mother and father are both dead now (my mother died in July of 2000 at the age of 101). I have four sisters, and we are interested in finding information about our families from that era. Our father was Robert W. Cooper and I believe his father Wm. Walter Cooper once ran the elevator in Sac City. He also was a member of the town council, I believe. Three of my sisters and I may be coming to Sac City this spring (2003) and would be interested in knowing where we might find information about our family's connection to the town.
Thank you.

Kool Page, This a great way to keep in touch with home. My Dad (Lee) told me about it. Class of 71' Will visit often....
My name is Charles Crowe. My mother, sister and I lived in Sac city in 1966. I went to the fifth grade there. At that time I think Sac City was only 1500 people. I realy like small towns.
My Aunt and Uncle lived on a farm outside Early. I hope to someday get back and see the town again. We only lived there about a year, but it left a childhood. I was in the cub-scouts there. I remember the steep hill leading down to the main part of town. A small shop on the right corner were we would get popcorn for a nickel, down from that the grocery store.
What I would really like to see is some photos of the town today. The shots of the past are great, but I was not around then.
You have put together a great site, keep it up.
I grew up in Sac City, right at the top of Leonard hill. When I was a kid they used to shut the street off clear down to 5th street so kids could sled down that hill. What a ride! The folks moved after I graduated in '66, Dad died in '93, but Mom still lives in Sac. It will always be home. Great website, Thanks for the memories.
I attended Cedar No. 3 school (one room country school) for eight years as the only student in my class, and graduated in 1934. Class reunions are held anytime I want to set down and talk to myself.
I was trying to buy a house in Primghar for a long time, it didnt work out so I had to move from Las Vegas (NV) to Minneapolis (instead of Iowa). Recently I discovered a gorgeous looking home in Sac City and then found THIS website and I have to say... Sac City looks a lot better than Primghar! Anyone that has any news about Sac City about living conditions, schools (elementary and day care) etc, feel free to email me!
I am going to try to drive down there soon to look at some houses! (Im self employed, so any lack of jobs won't effect me!)
Also, where does the name SAC City come from? It really looks like a nice place, is it??
My Grandparents Sharon and Dorris Mayo are living in Sac City now. Some of you may or may not know them. If you do tell them their granddaughter Melissa Said HELLO!
My son Travis is doing a report for school and has to tell about a place in Iowa he would like to visit and write five sentences about that place. He chose Sac City! I came on this website hoping to find a picture of the Early Mansion.
And sure enough I found it! You have a great sight and I was happy to check it out! I can Always tell My grandparents are very proud of Sac City, and they have good reason to be.
Thanks!
Melissa
I grew up in Sac City and visit often. My two boys part-time residents of Sac City and love it there. I am very fortunate that my parents still live there and I can always go "home" whenever I want to. I moved from the Des Moines to Adel because I wanted my kids to grow up in a small town. Before we moved my oldest son said, "Just because you grew up in a small town doesn't mean everyone has to." He has since changed his mind and loves small town life. Looking forward to the 25th reunion for the class of '79.
Lynda Cavanagh told me that pictures (or picture tour) of her decorated home were to be on the Sac City website. I am not finding a connecting link or any posting of her home. What did I miss?
Whats the dealio with all my old homieos I Havent been back for awhile and im just letting you know I didnt forget ya. So AK you better clean my room! HAHAHA!!!
What a fabulous web site! It brought back a lot of memories of days gone by! There was a lot of work that went into the project, and all of those involved need to take a bow! Would love to hear from any of the alumni!
Just browsed the website and have to say it's great. Y'all did a fine job on setting it up. It brought back a lot of memories for this grad of '64. Since I haven't been back to Sac City for about 25-30 years, this website was a fun way to catch up with what has/hasn't changed in the ol' hometown.
Thanks again for a wonderful website.

I found this site to be very helpful. As well as informative.
It has been many years since I last saw Sac City and the house I grew up in on Audubon Street. I left Sac three months after the Elm's Apartment Fire. Lots of work went into developing this site and I would hope that more pictures can be added in the future. I was fortunate to see first hand the remodeling of the Sac City Elementary School in the 50's.
I have lived in Sac all my life. Can't see myself living anywhere else. Traveled to North Carolina & Nevada but I'm always glad to get home. This website is very interesting. You did a wonderful job showing off our town. Proud to say Sac City is my hometown.
Great way to keep in touch! I joined the Army after graduation and am currently completing my training at Columbia, S.C. I graduate October 31 and then attend my Advanced Individual Training in Maryland. Please e-mail me if you would like my address to keep in touch!
I've just spent a good hour browsing your website. I even found an old friend on the alumni/reunion page. You have done a very good job representing Sac City. Congratulations!
Sac City will always be home to me even though I have been gone a long time. My Dad had his own business called Blaha Service and my husband Mick now works for Blaha Service in Bellevue, Ne.which is owned by Rick and Sharon McBride-Blaha. All my brothers and sisters grew up and graduated from Sac High. I am always proud to say where I am from. Sac City is still the most beautiful town.
My father was born in Sac City in 1919 and graduated in 1939. His name was Bill Cory. He passed away in 1998. Anyone who would like to share any stories would be appreciated.
My brother, E.J. Carnine, of Blue Grass, Ia, forwarded the Sac City web site. Bravo to all who worked to make it a classy and informative site! I especially enjoyed the old photos; seeing my parents' home at 1705 Main Street renewed fond memories of the wonderful times spent there with family and friends. As I have no family in Sac City now, I rarely visit, but I often drive through en route to visit family in the area, and am reminded of the sense of safety and security I felt growing up in this small rural Iowa town. I look forward to more great work! Thanks.
I saw the website in the Sac Sun when we were visiting Mom and Dad. Great website! Great pictures! Great content! Accurate spelling!! I think of Sac as home. Everytime we visit I want to move back. It's comfortable. Sac is a town where people are polite and helpful. The little town has a big heart and the people care. The changes being made (Kid's World, the new pool, this website) show how this community is never stagnant and always improving. Go Sac!
hi there..well im from canada..and i love yer lil town u have there..lol..its greeeeat..i wanna move to Iowa soo badly..just because to get away from the city..imma city gurl and i cant stand it..altho it is kinda nice..but getting away for a bit might be nice..considering i know some ppl there..so im coming there in september sometime..I CANT WAIT!!! hehehe...Liz.....
It's wonderful that you have a website of Sac City. I didn't know you had one until this past weekend when I saw it in my mom's paper. Yes I remember as my Grandparents lived in Sac. I never went to School there. I went to Lake View to School. I know quite a few people from Sac. Thanks for doing a good job in puting this together. Great pictures.
What a great web site! A job well done to all who took part to make this so successful! Sac City has always been my "home" and a great place to raise my kids.
Your town makes me very tired. It is not as bumping as i had hoped. It is almost as beautiful as the motherland, it brings tear to my eye. well, i have to bounce.
Hey, cool website! It was fun to read everyone else's comments in this guestbook. It reminded me of how big the class of '78 was. (most of them WERE only 12 when they graduated.........) I'm looking forward to the 25 year reunion for the class of 1979. (We're credited with inventing Disco......)
My husband Lloyd Hansen was born on a farm near Sac City in 1926. Since then he has been back to visit many times. We still make our annual visit to Aunt Lois Roose and Margaret (Roose) Nunez to or from our visit to family members in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Nebraska. Enjoyed the site. Good job!!!
Thank You, Larry Peyton, for posting this website on Classmates.com!!! I would never have found it if not for you.
The website is fantastic.
Wisconsin has been my place of residence for 37 years, but I still go "home" to Sac City!
I would also like to see a spot where "class reunions" could be posted. Even if it is on the "Guest Book".
Even though I haven't been to Sac City in years...class of 1978, I still view myself as an Iowan and think of Sac City and Iowa often. I am very impressed with this new site and will use this as a tool for planning any trips back to Iowa...(class of 1978-25th year reunion)...
I've never been there, only heard of it and seen pictures through an old friend back when we were in the Navy. Lovely place though. Tammi, if you ever read this, email me sometime. It's been along time. I really miss you.
Great job on the new web site. FYI for those in the Sac High Class of 1978, our tentative date for the reunion is the weekend of the 4th of July, 2003!! Can't believe it has been 25 years!!! Of course, I was only 12 when I graduated!!
This is a wonderful web site. I grew up in Sac City, attended grade school and high school til my senior yr.
My parents owned Johnson Studio and my Dad passed away in 1963. My Mom and I moved in 1964, but, I still remember growing up in Sac City.
Keep up the terrific web site.
Hello to my class of 1965 :)
This is the best community web-site I have seen. Great job! Not only is the content excellent, but the coding is tight. Your web master should be proud of such a fine job. Thanks, Mr. Mayor, for pointing it out for me.
I hope you will post upcoming Class Reunion Dates on the site so we all know who is planning what and when. This would make it easier to plan future visits.
Makes me proud to be associated with Sac City as a member of the Sac Community School Class of 1960.
I have had the pleasure of visiting Sac City on two seperate vacations. I have to say that, on both trips, we found Sac City to be one of the most friendly and enjoyable towns that we have ever had the good fortune to visit. My husband Jeff, was so taken by the fact that everyone waved at everyone, even if they didn't know them. He attempted to continue this waving after we returned to Mpls., but with the failure of anyone waving back at him here, he stopped trying. I have never visited a town before that made me feel like "I had lived there my whole life". You have a town to be very proud of, please don't ever change. I'm proud to say that I am a relative of the Sac City Peyton's.
Great web page! I like the pretty pictures of our "fair" city. Nice layout. Info listed correctly. Very handy & informational listings. Good job=worth the extra effort.
The website looks fantastic! You have all done a fantastic job putting the information together. I am truly proud to say that I live and work in this community. Way to go!!
The Sac City Web site is greatly improved. Lots of interesting things to see. Everyone will injoy the new site and the community events are a great addition.
Great Job to all involved in developing the web site.
The Web site looks great! It makes me homesick. Sac City was a wonderful place to grow up. People are so friendly. I think I will always consider Sac City "Home".
This web site is excellent. Sac City is a great place to live and work, and it shows why here. Put the Web site on the K-Sac channel at school so more people know about it. Thanks for your work.
Congratulations to everyone who worked on the web site. It looks and works great! We checked out all the categories, as well as all the links; watched the slide show and enjoyed the historic photos. The site is one that our community can be proud of.
I want to let everyone that work on this web site know how nice it is. Lots of good history and current information. It was real easy to navigate threw. I could move threw it easily and quickly. A big thank you to all who put this together. Sac City is a great place to live and call home.
Great job,
Merlen Noess
