Quality of Life

Activities
   Plays, concerts, old-fashioned Chautauqua performances, parades, museum displays and other events promoting the area's heritage entertain and inform area residents. Sac City's Fine Arts Council provides additional cultural enrichment by sponsoring touring performers and artists.


Health Care
   Loring Hospital, a medical facility with 33 acute and 21 long-term care beds, provides intermediate and skilled care. The county ambulance service is headquartered in the hospital with satellite units throughout the county. Life flight service is available to 4 major medical centers. The Loring Clinic, located adjacent to the hospital, is staffed with 4 full-time physicians, one physician's assistant, and one nurse practitioner, and offers outpatient clinics which provide 8 specialty services. A new out patient addition built in 1997 features a chemotherapy room for cancer patients, a new physical therapy department, a community health education center and the addition of tele-medicine to Sac County. Park View Care Center, located 1 block from the hospital, provides 77 intermediate care beds. In addition, Sac City has 2 chiropractic doctors, 1 optometrist and 1 dentist.


Library
   The Sac City Public Library contains over 20,000 volumes, magazines, films, educational, videos, and computers available to the public. Patrons may make use of the children's wing, an adult wing, a periodical room, computer room, group study area, individual study area and the children's activity area. Through association with the Iowa Library Network, additional volumes contained in libraries throughout the state may be obtained.


Churches
There are 7 Protestant churches and 1 Catholic church in Sac City. All churches are easily accessible and offer many activities and opportunities to serve. A Jewish Temple is located within an hour's drive of the community.


Service Organizations
   Many business and social clubs, such as Lions, Kiwanis, Wa-Tan-Ye, and Toastmasters, have active chapters in Sac City. The Chamber of Commerce can provide an up to date listing of organizations and officers.


Housing
   Sac City boasts a wide variety of residential styles, ranging from beautiful Victorian mansions to modern contemporary homes, with large lots, ideal for gardening and relaxation. Situated on the banks of the Raccoon River, the city is noted for its natural beauty with towering oaks and a variety of other trees lining wide streets. Apartments, duplexes, elderly housing, an independent living facility, and country acreages compliment the available housing.

Recreational
   A municipal swimming pool and tennis courts, a community recreation center with swimming, basketball, racquetball, aerobics, and volleyball, a 9 hole golf course, hiking trails, and picnic areas provide social recreational activities for all.
