Message Subject: Class of 1959 Reunion
This weekend the Class of 1959 of SCHS gathered for our reunion. The planners of our reunion could not have chosen a better weekend for the get together. Many thanks to all of you!!!
The gathering on Friday evening gave us a chance to renew old acquaintances and the food at the Viking Bay was good too. The tour of our old high school brought back many memories (good and bad!!). The museum was a delightful trip into the history of our community. The quilt show was especially entertaining because many of us have experience with quilting and the quilts that were exhibited were outstanding.
The dinner at the Country Club was catered by the Hub and was delicious. I'm certain a great time was had by all. Thanks again to all those who helped make it such a success!! |

We are building a Sac County Veterans Memorial on the southside of the Courthouse building. Names will be engraved on the granite tablets...this is for any veteran that has lived in Sac County at any time in his or her life, and must be honorably discharged from service. (Also, we are accepting those who are currently serving in the military). NOW is the time to honor that veteran - you, a family member, a friend, a classmate. For more information you can check out our website at www.saccountyveteransmemorial.com, or call my office at 712-662-4552 (Sac County Veterans Affairs Office). My great-grandmother moved to Sac City with her family in 1871 from Chicago. Her name was Mable Needham. We know her father was once Director of the Chicago Symphony prior to them leaving for Iowa and we think he was a banker in Sac City. We have pictures of the house she lived in with her family and plan a visit there in July of 2009 to bring our mother (Mabel's grand-daughter) one last time to see the old house. We were last there in 1971 for a family reunion. Does anyone know of a Bed and Breakfast in Sac City or close by? I would be grateful for any information. |

I am hoping someone out there can help me find a long-lost cousin, Bob Hughes. He grew up in Sac City, and would have graduated from high school somewhere between 1960 and 1962. I heard at one time that he was teaching in CA, but I have no information further than that. If you know Bob, or his whereabouts, I would appreciate an email so I can contact him. I have another cousin, Larry Hughes, who is also interested in finding Bob. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Message Subject: curious about the quilting block paintings we seen
Last weekend I drove up with my step sister to see a friend of hers who lives in harcourt iowa. As we were driving up we started to notice paintings of huge, beautiful, different quilting block paintings on barns and even small ones in a yard or two beginning from the edge of Early Iowa up to the turnoff exit to Fort Dodge/Harcourt. Some of the patterns actually reminded me of some old quilt's my grandmother used to have when I was a small child.I still remember her wrapping my sisters and I up in them when we would stay over. My grandmother has been gone since 1970 but its odd I know how something as simple as this can trigger a warm loving memory from the past. could you tell me what they really mean. |

I grew up in Sac City and the drive-in was called A&W Drive-in, with car hops roller skating, bringing food to people in their cars.
My parents owned Johnson Studio, but, I don't remember him taking any pictures of those businesses that he listed. They are both deceased and a lot of the pictures and negatives he had are long gone.
I read this guest book every so often, to see if any of my classmates post a comment. So far, I have not seen anyone's names!! So, if anyone from the class of '65 is reading, please post a comment.

I and my brother grew up in Sac City. I hope someday to come back and visit. I had two best friends Dana Bing, and Cathy Smith. I am now 66 years old and wish I could come back home to the simple life.
I was known as Jeri Kay (Booth) Hutchinson, I had a brother who until his untimely death lived there in the 70's his name was, Frankie Eugene. Some of my fondness memories are of when we lived with our grandmother, Sarah Alice Davis. Who passed away in 1962, (we lived next door to the Andrew Moeller family) Our Mother's name was Florence Irene, she disappeared in 1962. She was never heard from again, to this day we do not know where she is or if she is still alive.
I can't think of a finer place to raise children then Sac City, Iowa. I hope the children growing up here realize what they have there and that life is no better in the big cities.
Thank you for letting me share

My father (Don Highland) was from Sac City and we spent time there in the summer when my brothers and sisters were growing up. Believe some of the early settlers of Sac were named Highland...any truth to that? |

Message Subject: Looking for my father and/or Grandmother
I'm looking for my Dad (Loren "Rusty" Little) and Grandmother (Katherine Leonard.) My Dad stopped emailing me about a year ago and seems to have just dropped off the grid. I can't find his name/addy/phone anywhere. The last time I heard from him, he said that my Grandmother wasn't doing well. I know he's been very active in the LDS church there, and was talking about going on a mission.
Can anyone help me find my loved ones? I'd very much appreciate it! |

I was there 4 days and got arround Sac City alot. What a beautiful town and the people couldn't have been more friendler. Having grown up in New York and I now live in PA, I am jealous of your beautiful town, it's people and of your lifestyle. I hope to get back there in the near future. |

My mother told me many stories about Sac City when I was young. Her name is Hallie C. (Shoberg) McCarthy who lived in Nemaha as a child. She always told me of her childhood and Sac City was always mentioned. I hope to visit the town someday and see what she described, though I am sure much has changed. |

I was an AFS student in 1978. Sac City and its people gave me the best memories of my life. The Donaldson family will always be in my heart as my family. The time I spent in Sac City has influenced my life in mnay ways, professionally and personally speaking. I am an English teacher for public and private schools. This is one more reason that makes me treasure the wonderful experience I had while in the USA. So I thank to the Donaldsons and the people from Sac City. |

I lived in Sac City from 1945-1960 when Ron Flink and myself joined the Navy. I would like to see or meet any of my friends, wheather they are in California, or nearby.
Were it not for my wifes health we would consider moving back to Sac.
The class of 1960 was a wonderful group. I am still in contact with some of my classmates.
The memories are still rich in my mind as I reach my 66th year. I would be pleased to speak to anyone from Sac, to share the greatest town on earth to have grown up in.

I have fond memories of spending summers of my childhood in Sac City, visiting my grandparents, Harold and June Brown. My mom, Sara (Brown) Eichhorn, grew up in Sac City. Message Subject: I miss little-old-Sac-City!
Hi Everybody! I just wanted to say that college is going great but I miss my little itty-bitty hometown of Sac City, IA. I miss personally knowing my teachers and classmates and being able to recognize everybody I walk by. Don't get me wrong, Iowa City has been great! But it is just so different than what I grew accustomed to. I am almost done with my freshman year at the University of Iowa, I work at the University Hospitals in the Pediatric ICU, and I am engaged!!!! Lucas Johnson proposed on February 15th, our 4 1/2 year anniversary. We will be moving in to an apartment in Cedar Rapids together this coming August- so we can split the cost.
That's all for now. If anybody wants to contact me please feel free! I love to hear from anyone who ties me back to Sac because it gets a little lonely here in Iowa City- not knowing the names of the hundreds of people I walk by each day. Also, send me contact information so that when wedding invitations go out in the next year or so- that will be easy for me.
God Bless you all!

I grew up in Sac City (Class of '79) and have wonderful memories of the years spent there. I don't get back very often anymore as my parents live in the Quad Cities. But I loved bragging about my home town on WHO Radio. Growing up in a community like Sac City has values that last a life time.
This is a great website.
